Quality is also a little lacklustre. Start prodding around and you’ll be surprised at just how much hard, rather cheap-looking plastic is used for the centre console and the lower parts of the dash. The controls also feel a little low-rent; buttons squeak and the column-mounted stalks feel like parts-bin specials. Our new long-termer is a 2016 one-careful-owner car, which I picked up from the bustling Mitsubishi main dealer Shelly Motors in Epsom, Surrey. There, brand manager Lee Higlett talked me through some of the finer points of Outlander ownership. On close inspection, our PHEV certainly seems little troubled by its one year of usage. I was interested to hear that if you were to buy one like ours from a main dealer, it would currently set you back around £28,000. New, our top-spec 5hs will set you back a whopping £43,555, and that’s after subtracting the £2500 grant – so straight away there’s something to be gained by buying it at this age. Workhorse hasn’t yet said much about the HorseFly drone that comes with the N-Gen, but it’s a model that the company engineered in-house. It will deploy from the vehicle and will be software linked, so that it might be able to take a small package to a nearby cul-de-sac, for instance, while a larger one is being delivered. This isn’t the only company vying for the last-mile delivery business and its electric future. One particularly well-funded effort is Chanje, a startup that has managed to recruit former executives from Volkswagen, Tesla, and one earlier fleet-focused company, Smith Electric Vehicles. And a Hybrid Helicopter for Two Workhorse also has a larger, manned aircraft under development. The unique eight-blade SureFly Octocopter, which the company revealed at the Paris Air Show this summer, can hold the pilot plus one other occupant. It’s also an electrified product, but with power sources prioritized the opposite way compared to its trucks; there, a gasoline engine provides power to the electrically driven prop system, and twin battery packs serve as a five-minute power backup, allowing the pilot enough time to land if they run out of fuel or the engine fails. Bad weather raises the chances of an incident occurring, but if you are paying attention to what is going on with your car and your surroundings, then you can increase your chances of being safe on the road. Look as far ahead as you can to anticipate any situation, but also be aware of what's going on underneath you by the seat of your pants and what you can feel the front wheels doing through the steering wheel. This will give you all the information you need to know that all is progressing smoothly, and will also tell you when something isn't right. The X2 will be offered with just three engines at launch – the sDrive20i petrol emits 134g/km of CO2 and is claimed to return up to 51.4mpg, while the 187bhp xDrive20d diesel emits 126g/km and returns 61.4mpg. The higher-powered diesel, the 228bhp xDrive25d, returns 55.4mpg and emits 133g/km of CO2, and is capable of sprinting to 62mph in 6.7sec. GREEN CARS Electric Saab 9-3 to become the national car of Turkey There's also no formal name for the SUV yet. Seat has been holding a vote, with the public able to choose their favourite. The current finalists are Talboran, Taranda, Avila and Tarraco. Of those, our money is on the Seat Avila, given that it fits in well with the current line-up of Ateca and Arona. Seat was due to make a formal announcement of the name this month, but that has been delayed due to events taking place in Catalonia. Screen wash has a lower freezing temperature than water alone, so you shouldn’t end up with frozen washer jets, although they can still become blocked if there's a particularly heavy frost or freezing rain gets into them. But what’s it like today?
