Understeer is caused when the front wheels of a car slip on the road surface while the rears still have grip. It usually occurs when you carry too much speed into a corner, and when you go to apply steering lock, the front end of the car doesn't respond and the car wants to continue straight ahead, rather than following the direction of the front wheels around the corner.

“WRC” might not be the longest-running racing game series, but it may have the most entries. The lineup started in 2001 with “WRC,” which was followed by “WRC 2,” “WRC 3” and “WRC4” in 2004 before jumping to “WRC: Rally Evolved” in 2005. The series reverted back to “World Rally Championship” and then moved to “WRC: FIA World Rally Championship” in 2010. After the reboot we’ve seen 2, 3, “Powerslide,” 4, 5, 6 and finally “WRC 7,” which went on sale Sept. 15. It was the first to get a Porsche 911 rally car -- a downloadable extra.
Removed from its natural habitat and heading down a demanding country road, it’s less supreme. With vague steering and relatively soft suspension, the Cavalier feels unwieldy and often gets pitched off line by mid-corner lumps and bumps. It’s easy to see why, in 1995, Ford regained the upper hand – and its pride – with the Sierra’s ground-up replacement: the sharp-handling Mondeo. Back to that Thrustmaster wheel: It has an insane amount of force feedback (or lack thereof, like when you’re flying through the air). It also jiggles at idle, which sort of feels like a motor rocking the car back and forth. Like all of these games, “Forza 7” included, the amount of feedback and environmental effects can be adjusted in the menu screen. The suede-covered wheel reacts to the track and the in-game car reacts almost perfectly to the wheel. I found the Scandanavian Flick to be a little harder than in real life. You can really use left-foot braking to load up the suspension and somewhat realistically swing the car around. Keep the gas pinned(-ish) and dab the brakes as needed.
So, “WRC 7” has all of the cars, all of the teams and ALL of the tracks from the current rally season. I started out with the big cars before quickly realizing that they had a little too much power for a rallying rookie; in-house rally driver Jimmy had a bit more luck early on. But with the hyperrealistic brand-spanking-new Thrustmaster Ts-Xw Racer Sparco P310 wheel controller setup -- thanks guys, we love it -- I could feel every errant rock at the edge of the road, every tree stump and every freewheeling jump the Ford Junior WRC car could throw at me. Front-wheel drive: It’s where the losers start.
