What the 2018 Accord brings is a next-level driving experience. This Honda interacts with its driver almost intuitively; there’s an eagerness that isn’t available in its competitors. Let’s start with the transmission.
What’s more, while 1451 GT made it to the race, its driver and owner at the time (a Mr Bob Grossman), recalled that the exterior had but a ‘flash’ of paint covering the primer, and that there were ‘rags’ covering the unfinished seats. As for such a car’s real-life implications, we don’t want to indulge in too much wishful thinking. But there has been plenty of talk of a new Honda-badged sports car in recent years. We first entertained the possibility of Honda’s mid-engined Porsche Cayman fighter in 2015, while more recent rumors have centered around a revived S2000 roadster, possibly with hybrid power. At this point, we can only live out our fantasies in the video-game world and hold out hope that this virtual Honda is more than just talk.
However, ABS isn't an impenetrable safety net. It's not an excuse to drive into hazards more quickly, and doesn't mean you can drive closer to the vehicle in front - yes it does help to reduce braking distances, but you should maintain distance so you don't need to put the ABS to use. Plus, on slippery surfaces, bear in mind that ABS doesn’t work as well – and on sheet ice, nothing will stop you except crashing into the kerbside or another object. Safe speed is the key for winter driving.

Aside from the transmission, the Accord delivers an unsullied ribbon of wholesome automotive delight. The steering is informative but light enough that it can be operated with fingertips. The interior is roomy, the seats in the EX-L model out-comfort those in some hoity-toity pretenders, and the whole thing is quiet at speed thanks to excellent air management around the car’s skin.

It’s stomping the major routes that our Vauxhall still shines. On a fast-moving motorway, the Cavalier is surprisingly subdued, with minimal wind or road noise, demonstrating that all those hours in the wind tunnel were fruitful. And this 2.5-litre V6 engine has even more grunt than the 2.0-litre in our test, delivering effortless roll-on performance, despite being paired to a rather sluggish four-speed automatic gearbox. It’s easy to see why 'the Cav' was the repmobile of choice.
