The Accord’s 192-hp version is at least nominally close to the CR-V unit, with its 10.3:1 compression ratio, direct fuel injection, and VTEC variable valve-timing system. All variants use essentially the same hardware, including the Mitsubishi TD03 single-scroll turbocharger. What varies is the software, boost levels, and, in the case of the Civic Si, a preference for premium fuel.
More to the point, the 2018 model’s numbers beat out four-cylinder rivals such as the Toyota Camry and the Nissan Altima, while essentially matching the Mazda 6’s performance. Still, acceleration is not where the new Accord’s advantages lie.
In the cabin we expect the production QX50 to stick close to the finish and technology previewed in the concept, boasting a minimalist dashboard design and digital instrument display.
Most people are aware that their car is fitted with ABS, but few know what it does or how it works. Sensors fitted to a car's wheels determine if one is on the verge of locking up under braking. If a wheel does lock, then hydraulic valves release to reduce braking pressure ever so slightly to prevent this happening. In many ways the electronics are performing cadence braking - where the driver pumps the brake pedal to prevent wheel lock. This allows the driver to maintain steering control, which is lost when the wheels are locked.
“Inside, I think the infotainment screen stands out – it looks fantastic and is feature packed. But aside from that, there also seems to be good amounts of space for this type of car – particularly legroom and boot space. I like the low loading lip for getting items in the back, too.”
If you’ve not got the time to prepare your car for winter, then you can ask an expert to do it for you. Many main dealers and high street car spares shops can do this for a nominal fee. Some even offer free winter car checks, especially if your car is due a service around the same time.
"Century-old automobile giants are racing with each other in new-generation car technologies. So now is the right time for the Turkish automobile," Rifat Hisarciklioglu, chairman of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges, an organization involved in the project, told Hurriyet. Tatarevic noted that the site does show global service info, so we reached out to FCA for clarification and received the following from Alfa Romeo USA product communications manager Berj Alexanian: “No plans for any other engines for Giulia in North America for 2018 model year besides the 2.0L and 2.9L [gasoline] versions.” The Quadrifoglio, in case you weren’t aware, is powered by a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V-6.
By their nature, CVTs are easy to despise. Their simple design has an elegance to it, but without the stepped, distinct shifts of a conventional transmission, the engine makes a beeline for its torque peak, where it drones on as speed builds. Fortunately, CVTs work better with modern turbocharged engines like the Honda 1.5T that have broad torque curves so that there’s usually adequate grunt on hand even at lower engine speeds. Honda pushes that advantage even further in the Accord’s CVT by building in virtual gear steps that produce a more natural engine note during acceleration.
The setting can be particularly useful in the Model S 100D, which in Ludicrous Mode, can accelerate from 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds. This makes it faster than almost any vehicle currently on sale. In Chill Mode, that 2.5-second figure will not be possible, nor can the driver utilise the full electric jolt of 603bhp and 967Nm of torque from its 100kWh battery pack.
Krause's reported departure follows a string of other high-profile talent losses at the struggling company: Supply chain management head Tom Wessner left the company at the beginning of October, while human resources vice president Alan Cherry left in August.
The model is based on the platform of the new L200, and the pick-up roots are visible side-on and inside, with a similar ride height and door profile, plus a cabin inspired by the firm's pick-up. A large rear overhang translates into seven full-size seats and a huge boot, while the back end gets unusual stretched tail-lamps.
