Antifreeze, as its name suggests, stops the water in the engine’s cooling system from freezing. To test the effectiveness of your antifreeze, an antifreeze tester is available for about £5. To use it, unscrew the coolant reservoir cap under the bonnet (ensuring the engine is cold first), lower the tube into the coolant and squeeze the rubber bulb on the end to suck some antifreeze inside the tester.
Bozi Tatarevic posted the image shown above on Twitter yesterday, which he cribbed from Mopar Tech Authority, FCA’s OEM service site. Engine options beyond the two we’ve come to know in the States include a 2.2-liter diesel and a 350-hp version of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas burner. Tatarevic noted that the site does show global service info, so we reached out to FCA for clarification and received the following from Alfa Romeo USA product communications manager Berj Alexanian: “No plans for any other engines for Giulia in North America for 2018 model year besides the 2.0L and 2.9L [gasoline] versions.” The Quadrifoglio, in case you weren’t aware, is powered by a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V-6.
The Harvard group's leader, Col. Charles "Tex" Thornton, told Henry Ford II the young men could improve cost efficiency at Ford just as they had in the Air Force. The meeting gave Miller an early preview of the some of lax cost controls at the company.
Most people are aware that their car is fitted with ABS, but few know what it does or how it works. Sensors fitted to a car's wheels determine if one is on the verge of locking up under braking. If a wheel does lock, then hydraulic valves release to reduce braking pressure ever so slightly to prevent this happening. In many ways the electronics are performing cadence braking - where the driver pumps the brake pedal to prevent wheel lock. This allows the driver to maintain steering control, which is lost when the wheels are locked.
That’s why we asked owners of 14,208 cars to tell us if their cars had suffered any faults in the past 12 months. Faults were classified into 14 groups: battery, bodywork, brakes, engine, engine electrics, exhaust, exterior lights, fuel system, gearbox/clutch, interior trim, non-engine electrics, steering, suspension and other.
This powertrain is available for as little as $24,460, and Honda asks $34,690 for the top-spec 1.5T Touring, still a solid value for such a fully realized and useful machine. But yeah, save up a few bucks and get the 2.0T if you can. And we’d get the manual transmission, too.
By their nature, CVTs are easy to despise. Their simple design has an elegance to it, but without the stepped, distinct shifts of a conventional transmission, the engine makes a beeline for its torque peak, where it drones on as speed builds. Fortunately, CVTs work better with modern turbocharged engines like the Honda 1.5T that have broad torque curves so that there’s usually adequate grunt on hand even at lower engine speeds. Honda pushes that advantage even further in the Accord’s CVT by building in virtual gear steps that produce a more natural engine note during acceleration.
And the Corvette is on its original 5.7-liter V8 engine, though Blackwell recently had to get the headgasket replaced at around 750,000 miles.
Miller created Ford's first annual report -- complete with financial tables, charts and footnotes and what he described as "a nice cover."
